Rider Diary, Evan Corry Sunday 13th April

First road trip away for the Dixon Homes cycling team with a trip to Townsville for the North Queensland Games. We kicked the weekend off with the Rocky boys stopping in at Corry Cycles for a final fit out on the new Karbonas, after checking out the new bling the bikes were loaded we headed up the road. The Ignis led the way on the Bruce highway with others trying but failing to match the horsepower delivered by the 4kilowatt engine (in aero position with rear-view mirrors folded back).

Early Saturday morning for some heading out to light up the time trial, while others managed what was supposed to be an easy coffee shop ride, until Jay Callaghan decided to test the new Karbonas stopping power on the bitumen (in front of the locals including a bloke in an Akubra) The Time Trialers done us proud producing a first in all categories contested.

The road race was always going to be a tough day with a climb only 4km in, With Chris Roche up the Road early Evan Corry and Kyle Marwood managed to bridge the gap on the climb with Marwood lugging his 90kg frame up the hill at impressive speed, It was a case of driving to the finish for Myself and Kyle, while the others controlled the bunch. To cross the line with Kyle in toe with a 3minute plus lead was a great feeling, its good to achieve something as a team and see our hard work start to pay off.

The Crit was always going to be a different story with the locals looking for revenge on the flat tight circuit. But with some early breaks from the Dixon Homes team pulled back in, it wasn’t long until the right mix formed out front with the Victorian Horse Kyle Marwood, Adam Cashman and Chris Roche and one local driving the pace, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and all sprint primes, made for another good day out for the team.

On a personal note, achieving racing results is only a small part of what the Dixon Homes Cycling Team has achieved to date. To see Queensland cyclist approach racing professionally and watch friends race as one unit is awesome to say the least. To achieve the results we have on our debut is an even better achievement! We were unknown as a team... but not for long.
